Tuesday, October 22

Today was another day of school. In the US, we send valentine grams in February around Valentine’s Day, but here, since they are out on summer vacation during February, they sent Valentine’s grams today. Since it is a small school, there was much more opportunity for them to make it the most embarrassing and awkward possible. During the two breaks that we have before lunch, they set up a table in the middle of the high school patio and read each person’s gram out with a microphone in front of everyone. What’s worse is that there were 4 different types of roses you could send—red for love, pink for “remember” (like remember when we hooked up), yellow for apology (like sorry I hooked up with your ex), and white for friendship. The guy reading the grams read the name of the person it was for, the name of the person who sent it, and the message inside. Each time he read a card, a section of people (the whole school had gathered to listen) would burst out into gasps and laughter, remembering some long forgotten drama. I really don’t think they could have made it any more uncomfortable and awkward.
The rest of the day passed less eventfully. After school I went home and worked diligently again on my college work. I went for a run, took a shower, and went to sleep early because I just couldn’t handle doing any more college work.
